MOQ and Quantity Limits: How to Plan a Wholesale Basket

Minimum order quantity (MOQ) is the smallest quantity a supplier will accept for a product or order. On a wholesale marketplace, one listing may allow a range, another may require a fixed pack, and a third may have limited stock. Retailers should understand these rules before they build a basket.

Read the quantity rule on each listing

A minimum quantity tells you the smallest allowed order. A maximum quantity may limit one purchase by available stock or supplier settings. A fixed quantity means the supplier only sells a defined pack or lot. A quantity step can require orders in multiples, such as packs of 6. Follow the values displayed on the specific listing; do not assume every product has the same MOQ.

Check whether the supplier has an order-value minimum

Some marketplaces also set a minimum basket value per supplier. This is separate from product MOQ: a product may allow 10 pieces while the supplier’s order still needs to reach a minimum value. Confirm the rule shown in the live basket and checkout. Do not apply the B2B wholesale minimum to Rawhub’s public Mystery Box, which is a separate consumer flow.

Forecast demand before increasing quantity

Estimate sell-through using recent sales, seasonality, shelf space, expiry, cash flow and replenishment time. Start with a quantity your shop can realistically sell. If several products meet the same customer need, compare their margin and turnover before placing the order. A larger discount does not automatically make excess stock profitable.

What if supplier MOQ is too high?

Ask whether the supplier can offer a smaller trial pack, mixed bundle or revised quantity. If the listing does not support your required amount, use Rawhub’s buying request to describe the exact products, quantities and acceptable substitutions. Clear demand helps suppliers assess whether a workable combined offer is possible.
